Will I lose my data if I cancel a paid plan?

No — your data is safe. Canceling a paid plan does not delete your work or content.

When you cancel:

  • Your account will automatically switch to the free Idea Explorer plan.

  • All your data — including idea cards, notes and files — will remain accessible.

  • You can continue to view, search, and organise your existing work without interruption and use the features available in the free Idea Explorer plan.

What changes:

  • You will lose access to certain premium features (e.g., filing patents or additional collaborator accounts may be limited.)

  • You won’t lose anything you’ve created — you just won’t be able to use the paid-only features unless you resubscribe.

Rest assured, deleting your account does not result in data loss. You can upgrade at any time to continue your patent filing journey without interruption.

Does Clear IP auto-save my data?

Yes, ClearIP automatically saves your work in real time, so you never have to worry about losing progress. Whether you're drafting ideas or capturing notes, all your entries are securely saved as you go.

However, please note:

  • Idea Score Calculator inputs are not saved automatically as notes. If you'd like to keep these entries for future reference, be sure to manually save them as a note before navigating away or closing the tool.

Everything else, including your idea cards, notes, and uploaded files, is auto-saved and safely stored in your account.

Can I customise my Clear IP profile?

Yes — ClearIP allows you to easily personalise and manage your profile settings. This helps keep your account information accurate and up to date.

Here’s what you can customise:

  • Profile Image
Upload or update your profile photo to personalize your account.

  • Name

To make these changes, simply click on your avatar or name in the top-right corner and select “Account Information" then proceed to make your change and select "Save changes," and you have updated your profile. You cannot change your email address directly from your profile.

If you are moving to a different email address, you must contact our support team to request the update. This ensures your account remains secure and properly verified.

Where can I see my previous ideas?

Clear IP organizes your innovation journey clearly so you can easily track, develop, and manage your ideas at every stage.

What is stored in the "Refined" section?

This section contains all your idea cards that you have started or are currently developing. Each idea progresses through a structured 6-step development process, where each step includes a series of questions designed to deepen and refine your concept.

Your idea stays here as you answer these questions, even if you haven’t completed all six steps yet. This allows you to work at your own pace, revisiting and updating answers whenever needed.

What is stored in the "Ready" section?

When you have answered all the questions in every step of the 6-step process, your idea card moves to the Ready section. This signals your idea is fully developed and potentially ready for patent filing or further strategic planning.

What is stored in the "Ideas" section?

This section stores undeveloped ideas in the form of simple notes. It’s a space for capturing quick thoughts, early concepts, or research snippets — no need for fully formed ideas. When you're ready, you can begin shaping these notes by first using the Idea Score Calculator via "Analyse Idea." From there, you can move into full development by selecting "Develop Idea."

Find your ideas using the search bar.

Use the search bar  to locate any idea in the different sections, Ideas, Refined and Ready, allowing you to easily find your ideas, no matter how many different ideas you have.

Can I have multiple Clear IP accounts?

Can I Have Multiple Accounts?

Yes, you can create multiple ClearIP accounts — as long as each one uses a unique email address.

Each account operates as a completely separate workspace. This means:

  • You can use different email addresses to manage various projects, clients, or organisations.

  • These accounts will not be connected or recognised as collaborators unless explicitly added through a team plan.

  • Simply having multiple accounts does not enable shared access or collaboration between them.

To enable real-time collaboration between users, such as sharing ideas, assigning roles, or co-developing innovations, you'll need to upgrade to the Professional or Enterprise plan. For more details, see the Collaboration and Sharing section.

Legal and Compliance

What happens if someone else has a similar idea to mine?

If someone else has already patented a similar idea, it could affect the patentability of your invention. During the idea capture process, our App helps identify similar ideas to inform you early on and guide your development process.

What databases does the App search for similar ideas?

The App searches through major international patent databases, including those maintained by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), European Patent Office (EPO), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and other national patent offices.

Does finding similar ideas mean my invention can't be patented?

Not necessarily. Even if there are similar ideas, your invention might still be patentable if it has unique features or improvements that distinguish it from existing patents. A patent attorney can help you determine the patentability of your invention based on the similarities found.

Does the App provide templates for patent drawings?

While the App focuses on textual content, it provides guidelines and resources for creating patent drawings, which can be used to enhance your patent application.

How does the ClearIP handle intellectual property disputes?

We provide information and resources on handling intellectual property disputes, but you will need to consult with a legal professional for specific legal advice and representation.

What if I need help understanding the legal terms and conditions?

The App offers informational resources and a network of legal professionals who can help clarify and explain any legal terms and conditions you may encounter.

Collaboration and Sharing

Can I share my invention details with collaborators through the App?

Yes, the App allows you to share your invention details with collaborators securely, enabling you to work together while protecting your intellectual property.

Can I collaborate with multiple users on the same project within the App?

Yes, the App supports collaborative work, allowing multiple users to contribute to and review the same project while maintaining security and version control.

What is an NDA and why is it important?

A Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) is a legal document that establishes a confidential relationship between parties. It's crucial for protecting your invention when sharing it with others, such as potential investors or collaborators. Without an NDA, the patentability of your idea can be impaired as public disclosure may prevent you from obtaining a patent.

Is the NDA template legally binding?

Yes, the NDA template provided by the App is designed to be legally binding once signed by all parties. However, we recommend consulting with a legal professional to ensure the agreement meets all specific legal requirements applicable to your situation.

What does the NDA tool in the App provide?

The App offers a template for a Non-Disclosure Agreement that can be easily customized to suit your needs. This template can be emailed and signed electronically, streamlining the process of establishing confidentiality agreements.

Support and Resources

Can I receive notifications for important updates on my patent application?

Yes, the App can send notifications and updates about the status of your patent application and any actions required on your part.

Is there a way to track the progress of my patent application through the App?

The App includes a tracking feature that allows you to monitor the progress of your patent application from initial draft to final filing.

Can the App help me identify potential investors for my invention?

While the primary focus is on intellectual property protection, the App offers resources and tips for pitching your invention to potential investors.

Intellectual property (IP) is crucial for investors as it provides a competitive edge, establishes ownership, and protects the uniqueness of your invention. Startups that leverage a combination of IP early are 10 times more likely to raise venture capital (VC) and are 3 times more likely to achieve a successful exit.
